No energy meter should ever go backwards. If you think that your meter does please let us know. The most common reason for this happening is when solar panels having been installed but the electricity meter was not upgraded to handle the electricity being generated. Your meter should only measure the energy your property takes from the grid. When you’re generating electricity and using this in your home, your meter should slow down or even stop because you're taking less/no energy from the grid, but if your meter starts turning backwards then we need to investigate this. You may or may not have a separate meter for your solar panels, measuring energy that you've generated and returned to the grid.
