The switching process
It only takes a few minutes to get a quote and start your switch to So Energy. After you've completed the online switching form, we'll take it from there. The only other thing we'll need from you is opening readings, which we will ask for 5 days before you're due to come on supply (we'll send an email reminder about this). The whole process from start to finish should take 21 days.
We’ll keep you updated on what’s happening throughout the process. You can also login to your online account anytime to track your switch.
Have you just moved in?
If you've just moved in to a new property and want to choose your energy supplier, we'd recommend getting in touch with the current energy supplier first. If there is an outstanding debt or they don't have enough details on your account, they may delay your switch to us. If you're not sure who the current supplier is, get in touch and we'll be able to help.
Day 0 - Start your switchOnce you’ve completed the online form, we will email you your Welcome Pack. This contains everything you need to know about your So Energy contract including your expected switch date, Direct Debit amount and your first payment date. We'll also setup your online account so you can monitor how your switch is progressing.
We'll contact your current supplierWe’ll tell your current energy supplier about your request to switch to us.
Gas and electricity industry processes are different, so it's not uncommon for your supplier to receive our request to take over your gas and electricity supply at different times.
14-days to change your mindYou're completely free to change your mind and cancel your switch without incurring any exit fees at any time up to 14 days after the day you signed up, this is called your cooling off period. So please check all the information carefully.
Day 16 - Opening reading request5 days before your switch we’ll ask you for your opening meter readings.
Day 21 - Switch complete!Your energy is now supplied by So Energy! Your first payment will be taken around this date (the exact date is shown in your Welcome Pack). Once we've received your opening meter reading, we will pass this on for validation. Once this has been done (up to 6 weeks), they'll be sent to your previous supplier so they can generate your final bill. This means your closing reading with them should match your opening reading with us so you're never charged twice for the same energy.
Energy Switch Guarantee
We’re one of the first suppliers to sign up to the switch guarantee. This guarantee was setup by Energy UK (a trade association for the UK energy industry http://www.energy-uk.org.uk/) to ensure that the energy switching process is as smooth as possible.
The Energy Switch Guarantee sets out our commitment to you, as well as what your previous supplier is responsible for Energy Switch Guarantee.
